GENERAL CIVIL

Civil law is the branch of law dealing with disputes between individuals and organizations. Very often the civil law courts award monetary compensation to the deserving claimant of a case in addition to other forms of relief such as injunctions.

Civil law as a generic term covers many areas of law. The civil law courts in Hong Kong provide a forum for deciding disputes in areas such as building and construction, commercial, company, defamation, discrimination, employment, insolvency, intellectual property, land, landlord and tenant, negligence, partnership, personal injury, probate and administration of trusts, sale of goods, etc.

Many members in Central Chambers practise civil law, and since the implementation of the Civil Justice Reform some of them have also become accredited mediators who will assist the litigants in civil suits to resolve their disputes amicably in an out of court setting.
